Using Facebook v.s. Twitter to market School Auction

From  11/13/08 to 01/24/09 I posted on average at least 3 daily posts talking about the upcoming School Auction and either talking about what items we had or what we still wanted also thanking donors for their items and specific details about the event.

The response from my efforts was wonderful - I was able to create a great buzz around the event and had several new friend requests in reponse to my posts.  I had people contact me offering their monetary support and support in services that I would not have directly contacted. I found this means of marketing very effective and useful.

Total FB Friends as of 11/13/08 ~ #508 Total FB Friends as of 01/24/09 ~ #638

As I was making the Facebook posts I also was curious if sharing my comments and thoughts about the upcoming school auction on Twitter would be as beneficial. I was surpised that it was not.  I didn’t get any comments or direct responses on Twitter which really surprised me.  I know Twitter can be an incredible marketing tool but I think my approach failed in this instance.

- The auction by the way was a huge success!
